Each episode takes you around the neighbourhood of a recognisable South Australian and shows that by choosing South Australian businesses you are contributing to economic prosperity of South Australia.
We kicked off the series with Cornes and Sloane co-founder Kane Cornes who takes us around his neighbourhood Seacliff and the surrounding areas Brighton and Marino. He shows us some businesses that will inspire you to choose SA.
When it comes to Kane’s wheels he chooses his local Holden dealer, Hamilton Holden – when he does that he is helping all South Australians. Kane caught up with Sally Hamilton to find out why and learnt that Hamilton Holden have been in the area as a local business since 1988 and they currently employ 75 staff – largely from the surrounding suburbs. Hamilton Holden have also built a reputation for supporting charities and sporting organisations including the Glenelg Football Club and Somerton Bowling Club.
One place in Kane’s neighbourhood that he frequents often with his boys is the Brighton Jetty Bakery – home to South Australia’s best pasties! Owner Dave Matkovic represents a new wave of young South Australian entrepreneurs – reinvigorating our state. At Brighton Jetty Bakery they bake everything on site and are passionate about supporting the South Australian supply chain – sourcing produce from local butchers, farmers and growers. They also like to do collaborations with some of the best in SA – for example right now they have a Chicken and Apple Cider Pie using Hills Cider and local apples.
When it comes to his groceries, Kane is at Brighton Foodland almost every day – having three young sons will do that to you. Brighton Foodland makes it really easy to buy South Australian, stocking a huge range of local brands. Kane caught up with the boss Tim Rugless and discovered Brighton Foodland have been trading for over 100 years – more than that most of the kids Tim employs live locally and all the fruit and veg available from Brighton Foodland is sourced fresh daily from the Pooraka Fruit & Veg Market.
Kane couldn’t take us to his local neighbourhood without stopping by Brighton Caravan Park where thousands of South Australians holiday each year and it’s not hard to see why. With the stunning natural surrounds, a pristine beach on your doorstep and recently upgraded amenities, why would you choose to holiday anywhere else but South Australia?
